A Tennis Ball Could Be All You Need To Relieve Sciatica

The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the body, and if irritated or compressed, it can cause unbearable pain, numbness, and tingling in the lower back, through the buttock, down to the legs.

According to Mayo Clinic:

“Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. Typically, sciatica affects only one side of your body.

Sciatica most commonly occurs when a herniated disk, bone spur on the spine or narrowing of the spine (spinal stenosis) compresses part of the nerve. This causes inflammation, pain and often some numbness in the affected leg.”

As painkillers only numb the symptoms of this condition, most people usually benefit from regularly practicing yoga stretches.

However, there is an extremely effective way to soothe the pain by using a tennis ball. This trick will release the tension in the muscles and support blood flow that will ensure a proper supply of the needed nutrients in the affected area.

Here are the needed guidelines to help you relieve sciatica pain using a tennis ball:

Lie down and place the tennis ball between. Start rolling over towards the position of your sciatic nerve, which travels up the leg. Do not press too hard, and compress the area for about 20 seconds.

You can also place more tennis balls under the entire leg to boost the pressure.

Additionally, hold a ball in the hand and toll it over the front of the body, starting from the neck, and go downwards to the hips.

Yet, make sure you consult your doctor prior to trying this method as an alternative way to soothe the pain in the sciatic nerve.
